Iris Delgado

Health Access Editor

Iris Delgado writes about how New Yorkers get covered: Medicaid, the Essential Plan, marketplace plans, NYC Care, and the paperwork that sits between a person and a doctor’s appointment. She reports in English and Spanish, and follows Upper Manhattan and western Queens most closely — the neighborhoods where coverage rules and language access collide most often.

Her method is unglamorous. Read the program rules at the source. Call the office. Ask what actually happens at the front desk, not what the brochure says. Write down the date, because half of what’s published online about New York coverage is a year out of date and reads as if it isn’t.

She is not a broker, a navigator, or a clinician, and this site does not enroll anyone in anything. If you need enrollment help, NY State of Health has free certified navigators.

Reach her: iris@nycmednews.com. She particularly wants to hear when a clinic’s information on this site is wrong.
